Sales often gets the glory. And when a big project is sold, often the team that executes it gets some glory. But all too often in the business, there are those who don’t get to share in the public glory and recognition nearly as much.

I’m speaking specifically about those team members in back-office functions: Accounting, Finance, HR, PR, Internal Operations, Real Estate, and IT. Without these teams, all the big deals, and the execution of these deals, wouldn’t get to happen.

What it is like in a back-office role? To use an American Football analogy, it’s a little like playing on the Offensive Line… you only get your name called when the referee throws a flag, or better said, when there’s a problem.

At TransPerfect—and I would say this advice applies to all entrepreneurs and even to people who are just not in those back-office positions—we try to recognize, or thank, or do something to shout out those folks who do the behind-the-scenes work that allows the company to run.

To sum it up, always try to find opportunities to recognize excellent work in back-office positions.
